Book series, especially long ones, can be good and bad for bookworms. They’re great because you get to stick with the stories and characters you love for as long as possible! But as a book blogger, I sometimes dread starting a brand new series. When you have a stack of books that stretches to the sun, including a whole bunch of books you have to review, a series can be the last thing you want to start… but we still love ’em!
I have a few long series (my definition of a long series is 5+ books) on my shelves. I must admit – I don’t think I’ve finished many of them! They can be so daunting sitting there on your shelves, especially when you have other books to read. I want to make an effort at some point (I haven’t decided when…) to get through some of my series and finish them. It’ll be like a huge weight off my shoulders! In this post, I’ll take you through some book series that I really need to read, like, now.
5 Book Series I Really Need to Read
I started collecting The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine years ago, when I was in high school. They follow Claire, a student who gets a scholarship for a university in Morganville – a town she soon learns is pretty much run by vampires. I’m usually not a fan of vampire books, but these are done so well! I really love the characters and the stories. I’ve read up to book 10 and there are 15 altogether. I need to brush up on the plot of the past 10 books before I carry on though, because I’ve forgotten a lot of it!
While we’re talking about Rachel Caine, The Weather Wardens is another one of her series that I own. I haven’t even started these books at all, and I’m so intrigued to read them! The series is about Joanne Baldwin, a Weather Warden – part of an organization that rents space from the UN. Their mission is supposed to be alleviating natural disasters before millions of people die. Joanne shows up on the run from a murder accusation. She thinks if she can find Lewis Orwell, who has all three Warden capabilities – Earth, Fire, and Weather – she can get help. Her life becomes one huge complication as she learns a lot of truths people don’t want her to know. How cool does it sound?!
The Maze Runner by James Dashner is another series that I started and didn’t finish. I only read the first book before I got distracted and didn’t come back to them. (I also saw the awful film adaptation, and it kind of put me off going back to them for a while!) The first book was so amazing – I loved it. When I’ve got time, I think this might be the first series I come back to – mainly because I loved the first one, but also because it’s a pretty short series so it won’t take me months to get through it!
I’m so sad that I only own 3 of the Series of Unfortunate Events books by Lemony Snicket, and they’re so expensive to buy! Not to mention that the hardback versions like mine are hard to find in shops. I’ve searched in charity shops and book shops, to no avail. (If anyone knows where I can get them cheap, please let me know!) As soon as I manage to get my hands on them, I’m definitely going to read them all. I especially want to read the next few books before the next series comes out on Netflix!
Finally, one that I have to include is the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling. I’ve read all of the books (I will shamefully admit, I didn’t read books 3-7 until I was in university…) and they’re so great. I had to include them on this list because I really want to re-read them all – but that might take a while!
How About You?
I bet there are so many more series I can think of, but these are the ones high on my TBR pile. I need to power through some books so I can get to these. So if you don’t see me again for about 6 months, you know what I’m probably doing!
Which book series do you need to read? Do you own many series that you haven’t actually read yet?
