Welcome to the New Author Spotlight series! Each week, I’ll shine the spotlight on a brand new author. They’ll tell you a bit about themselves and their books, and I’ll share the links where you can find out more about them. You never know – you might find a new favourite!
This week’s guest is Christine Karper-Smith, author of contemporary romance Uncharted Course. Over to you, Christine!
Uncharted Course by Christine Karper-Smith
The August day was like any other day Corrie had been called in to work an extra shift at the radio station until British rock legend Josh Evans and his band came in to be interviewed. Her life changes when they go on a date that night, but she doesn’t foresee what is ahead of her – exes, groupies, tours, and marriage – all the things she remembers, as she attempts to write a speech for his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: 1st March 2017
A Bit About Christine & Her Book
Tell us a bit about one of your favourite characters from your book.
One of my favorite characters is Corrie’s older brother, Jed. He is a composite of my brothers – John, Earl, and Dan. I took traits from each them, like one really lived up the street and one really drove a silver EXP, and made Jed. Everything he does in the book is something at least one of my brothers has done or would be something they would do in that situation. He’s one of my favorites because of who he represents.
Do you have a particular writing spot, or do you write anywhere?
I sit, recline, or fight for space with my dog and cat on the love seat. I’m short enough to fit comfortably stretched out across it. This is my writing spot and my husband knows it. If I am on it with my laptop, he doesn’t interrupt unless it’s important. When I’m hit with writer’s block, I go to my daughter’s apartment or someplace where I can get a drink and/or food.
What kind of things inspire you on a day-to-day basis?
It depends on what I’m writing. Uncharted Course is about a radio producer who marries a rock star, so I listened to a lot of music, especially the artist Josh sounds most like in my head Josh as I wanted him to be. I’m currently writing one about a baseball player. I turn on my favorite team (Go Orioles!) each day and draw on the excitement of the game. My output for the day depends on if they win or lose.
What has your experience been like so far as an author?
I don’t have a lot of experience so far, but I’m enjoying what I have done. I’ve been guest author on blogs and doing interviews. I had my first book signing in May. It was fun having people come up and ask me about Uncharted Course. I was so nervous when the first person asked, I couldn’t remember. I think the best thing so far has been strangers liking my Facebook author page. It’s real when people you don’t know want to know about your books.
If you could spend a day with any of the characters from your book, who would it be and what would you do?
If you could spend a day with any of the characters, I’d have to pick Josh. Although, if I could, I’d choose when he’s younger, at the beginning to middle of the book. I’d love to spend some time in the studio, watching him record his next album. And then in the evening, stand in the wings of one of his shows. I’ve gotten to do this for a country artist, but I’d like to do it at a rock show, too.
Final Notes from the Author
I’m currently revising my new book that I expect to release this summer. Rose is about to graduate college when her father dies. He confesses that he kidnapped her as a toddler. She goes back to the town he told her to find out if it’s true or pain med talking…
You can buy a copy of Uncharted Course on Amazon.
