I must admit: I’m on the penultimate day of BEDM, I haven’t read for a few days because I seem to be in a bit of a reading slump at the moment (bleh), so I couldn’t think of anything interesting to write. This is when book tags are perfect! I was searching for some book tags and came across the Reading Habits and Readabits tags on Dreamland Book Blog, so today I’ll be doing that.
Reading Habits Tag
Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Nope, I just tend to read wherever is comfortable! It can be on my bed, in the garden, but mainly just curled up on the sofa in the living room. I can read through any noise too which is great when my housemates are doing things like playing games or watching TV in the living room – I can still focus on what I’m reading most of the time.
Bookmark or random piece of paper?
Ideally I would say I always have a bookmark handy, but that’s rarely the case. I usually use whatever I can find, even if it means using my phone as a bookmark or just remembering what page I was on. I never ever EVER fold the corner of the page though.
Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?
I usually have to stop at the end of the chapter, mainly just so it’s easier to remember where I was next time I read it! The only time I put the book down even mid-page is if I’m reading before bed and fall asleep, and then I just can’t help it. (It usually results in confusion about what page I was at the next morning though.)
Do you eat or drink while reading?
Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
I prefer quiet so I can fully concentrate, but like I said above, if there is background noise going on then I can focus on it too. I do like quiet though.
One book at a time or several at once?
I used to have like 3 or 4 books on the go at one time but I hate doing that now, I don’t see the point in starting a new book when you’re already reading one! (Okay, the only time I do that at the moment is if I’m reading a book and I think oh crap, I was supposed to review that book in two days time and I haven’t started it! But that’s rare. I’m pretty organised when it comes to reading.
Reading at home or everywhere?
I like to read anywhere! I recently went to Southport and I read there for a while, which was really nice because the weather was amazing. I do like the comfort of reading at home though where you can stay in your pyjamas.
Reading out lout or silently in your head?
Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
Never! I sometimes flick pages to see how many are left till the end of the chapter, but I’ll never read them. It ruins it if you know what’s going to happen!
Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
I like to keep them as nice and new-looking as possible but if they look a bit worn after I’ve read them then so be it. I like books to look like they’ve been read!
Do you write in your books?
Nope, I like to keep them clean. If I ever need to make notes for a review or anything I use sticky notes. That’s one great thing about using a Kindle to read – you can highlight sections and make notes!
When do you find yourself reading? Morning, afternoon, evening, whenever you get the chance or all the time?
Whenever I can chance to! I don’t try to set myself times of the day to read because I wouldn’t want it becoming a chore.
What is your best setting to read in?
I like to read in the living room curled up on the sofa – I can read for hours there. Last week I sat down, got comfortable and read a whole book in a day. I find it so comfortable!
What do you do first – Read or Watch?
Ooooh, it depends on many things. Sometimes I don’t even realise there was a book when a film comes out so I read it afterwards. Sometimes I end up watching a film before I get the chance to read the book (like Room last week – I’ve wanted to read the book for a while but we ended up watching the film first). However most of the time I like to try and read the book first so I don’t have images already created for me, and then it gets me excited to watch the film when it comes out.
What form do you prefer? Audiobook, E-book or physical book?
I’m not fussy! I prefer to read instead of listen (I have no problem with audiobooks, they’re great for so many reasons). I just generally prefer to read. It can be physical or eBook, it makes no difference to me whatsoever!
Do you have a unique habit when you read?
I don’t think so, not that I can think of!
Do book series have to match?
Yes, I do prefer them to. I have a couple of series on my shelf that have a few at the end of the series that don’t match, either because they discontinued the cover designs or I could only find them in a different shop with a different cover. It doesn’t bother me too much, but I do like them to match if they can – it’s just aesthetically pleasing!
I hope you enjoyed reading my answers. If you want to do this tag then I’m tagging you!
