books I wish has a sequel

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Top 5 Wednesday! This week’s challenge is to name five books that I wish had sequels. This was so difficult but I’ve (just about) managed to think of 5 – okay, one of them isn’t technically a sequel and more of an alternative universe version, but I’ve thought about it for years so I had to include it. Let’s go!

The Martian by Andy Weir

This is one of my all-time favourite books and I would love a sequel – maybe not even a sequel, but just more story! I don’t know what it could be about that wasn’t cleared up in the book. Do I care? OF COURSE NOT, I just want more please!

Lola Rose by Jacqueline Wilson

This is one of my favourite books from childhood. I really want to see how Lola Rose, her brother and their Mum continue their life in London, and how their father’s awful treatment of the family has had an effect on them later on in life. It would have a possibility to become quite dark as they deal with their feelings and their fears, and I could imagine it being more adult which would be interesting to follow a children’s story. Maybe I’ll write it myself…

Dear Amy by Helen Callaghan

I’d love a sequel to this. I loved the writing and the twists of the story. The ending – not just the ending in general, but the very last line of the book – made me really want to carry on reading and find out what happens next.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (*SPOILERS*)

‘d love to see how Liesel is doing later on in life, maybe as a young adult. How has her childhood affected her and what is her life like living with the Mayor? I’d imagine she’d be super smart and academic, living with the Mayor’s amazing library. I’d just be interested to see how she’s getting on.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Colins

Okay, this one’s cheating a bit because it’s not exactly a sequel that I want but more of an alternate universe version – even just a short story or novella – of what would have happened if Prim went into the Games instead of Katniss. How different would everything be? Would she last as long as Katniss or fall straight away? Would she be best friends with Rue who seems a similar age to her (I’d hope so, that would be cute)? How cool would that be?!

Do you agree with any of my choices? What would you like to see a sequel for? If you’re taking part in this month’s Top 5 Wednesday please let me know and I will read your posts!
