ultimate book tag

I was scrolling through a wonderful blog Fervently Curious today and I came across the ‘Ultimate Book Tag’. I haven’t been tagged, but I loved the look of the questions so I thought I’d do it. Let’s get started!

Do you get sick while reading in the car?

Sometimes, although a lot less than I used to. Now I can read a bit but it still makes me f
eel a bit gross. It’s annoying because car journeys would be perfect reading opportunities, but alas, not for me!51a99tea6il-_sy344_bo1204203200_

Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

The book that instantly popped into my head was The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I haven’t read anything else by him, but the writing style in this book was like nothing I’ve ever read before. I loved it.

Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.

Oh, I don’t even need to consider this for a second. a) The stories are magical, wonderful and SO close to my heart; b) They might not even be the best-written books in the world but they are a classic and they have enchanted the minds and hearts of hundreds of millions of people; c) The plot and characters were a million, maybe even a billion times stronger in HP. Which series do I have a tattoo dedicated to? It definitely isn’t Twilight.

Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is it in (besides books…)?

Nope. (That was the shortest answer ever.)

Do you smell your books?

Not really, actually! I know it’s a common thing for people to do but it’s not really something I do. Maybe I should start, maybe I can’t be a true 9781408845646_309816book nerd if I don’t.

Books with or without little illustrations?

Both! I do have a soft spot for some good illustrations. I REALLY WANT the Harry Potter illustrated editions.

What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

I actually can’t think of a time that that’s happened. If I love a book, I love the writing.

What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

(For this question and the next I’m going to answer them in terms of my uni book shelf, seeing as this is where I currently am.) At the moment it’s Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell (94 pages).

What is the thickest book on your shelf?

Either The Shadow Hour by Kate Riordan (528 pages) or Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (640 pages).

Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

I do occasionally – I’ve been thinking of getting back into it a lot recently, I get the thought pretty much every day! I’d love to write a novel. And yes, I’d LOVE to be an author!

When did you get into reading?

Oh man, I can’t remember! When I went to nursery (pre-school) at the age of 3, I remember there was a little library there where we could go with our parents and get books and toys to borrow. For some reason I vividly remember someone sitting at a table with one of those little metal notecard boxes where the library records were, and I took out a book. I guess that was when I got into reading, at the tiny age of 3.

In school was your best subject Language Arts/English?

Nope, definitely not. I did English Language A Level and it was my worst grade. I thought it would be more about writing so I was so excited to take it, and quickly realised how different it was – it’s more technical, learning about different types of words and clauses and different periods of English (Old English, Middle English etc). I really liked it but I can’t have been very good at it… I got a D.

What is your favourite classic book?

Okay, I must admit… I don’t think I’ve actually read a full classic. They’re so hard to read!

If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated, what would you do?

It would probably just sit on my bookshelf forever.

What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

Harry Potter OR The Hunger Games?! But they’re so different! I actually can’t think of something similar to HP off the top of my head, but closest I could think of to The Hunger Games is maybe the Unwind series (which is being turned into a film pretty soon…) by Neal Shusterman, or The Maze Runner by James Dashner.

What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while blogging?

I tend to think of a great post idea, start to write it, create the header image and everything and then I don’t finish it and just save it to my drafts. It sits there and sits there. I forget about it until a couple of weeks later, I look at my drafts and I’ve gone off the idea of posting it. I bet there are at least 3 sat in my drafts right now that I’ll probably end up never posting.

What is your favorite word?

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, the real name of a real place in Wales. I swear. Here’s the sign.

Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

A nerd. Definitely a nerd.

Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Vampires if they’re done well (not like Twilight vampires). One of my favourite book series is The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine (who I met in March!!). Why? Because I generally haven’t read very much, if anything at all, that has fairies in it.

Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

I haven’t really read enough of either of them to say!

Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

See above.

Zombies or Vampires?

Vampires (for the reason see above).

Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

Meh, neither.

Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

See above.

That’s it! For this, I’m going to tag YOU. If you fancy answering these questions then please do!
