Do you love graphic novels? Do you love buying them so much that you have a huge stack of them waiting to be read? Well, if this sounds like you and you’re free this weekend, you’re in luck!
On Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August 2022, my friend Kate and I will be hosting a Graphic Novel Readathon! Over 48 hours, we’ll be aiming to get through some of our graphic novel and/or manga TBR stacks.
The aim is for it to be a fun, relaxed weekend of reading, rather than frenzied, “read everything you possibly can in 48 hours” deal. So long as you read some graphic novels throughout the weekend, you’re still a worthy participant. But for those of you who do like the extra challenge, we’ve set some special TBR challenges that you might like to try and complete over the weekend…

Graphic Novel Readathon TBR Challenges
- Read a graphic novel by a debut author/illustrator
- Read a graphic novel that is part of a series
- Read a graphic novel that was/will be released in 2021 or 2022
- Read a graphic novel that has diverse representation (e.g. POC, LGBTQ+, disabled characters)
My TBR
I think I’m going to stay quite flexible with my TBR, but these are the ones I’ve pulled off my shelf that I’d definitely like to try and read. I’d also like to read some from my Humble Bundle Pride Month collection. Here’s my physical TBR:
- Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley
- Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol
- Check, Please! (Vol 1) by Ngozi Ukazu
- Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
- Paper Girls (Vol 1) by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang
- Saga (Vol 1) by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
- Fake Blood by Whitney Gardner
And here’s my digital TBR from the Humble Bundle collection:
- Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu
- The Tea Dragon Society by K. O’Neill
- Be Gay, Do Comics anthology
- I Am Not Okay with This by Charles Forsman
- The Backstagers (Vol 1) by James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh
- Fence (Vol 1) by C.S. Pacat and Johanna the Mad
- Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera and Celia Moscote
…as you can see, that’s a lot of books. I’m definitely not going to be able to read 14 books in 28 hours, even if graphic novels are quick to read. But my thinking is, by having a lot of choice, I can still mood read and have a pool of books to choose from depending on what I’m in the mood for!
YouTube Live Reading Sprints
Throughout the weekend, Kate and I will be hosting live reading sprints on our YouTube channels. We usually host sprints over on Kate’s channel most Mondays, so they’ll be exactly like that, only we’ll be focusing on our Graphic Novelathon TBR! During the sprints we’ll chat, respond to your comments, and run timed sprints where we buckle down and get some reading done. They’re a great way to motivate yourself and also to chat with others and see what everyone is reading.

Here’s the schedule for the sprints and where they’ll be happening:
- Saturday 21st: On my channel from 4:30pm – 7:30pm
- Sunday 22nd: On Kate’s channel from 2:30pm – 6:30pm
If you want to be reminded when the sprints start, head over to each of the links above and click the “Notify me” button.
