An Update to the Wonderfully Bookish Team!
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but one of my goals for the rest of this year is so post a lot more regularly on my blog. I’ve been posting a hell of a lot more, and I’m even trying out a twice-a-week posting schedule! For someone who posted 3 times in about 3 months, that’s a HUGE DEAL.
So one of the exciting additions to the Wonderfully Bookish universe is a co-blogger! My good friend Sophie is going to be joining the team as an occasional guest poster and I’m so happy to welcome her to my little bookish world.
I met Sophie in university. We were both part of the same friendship group (and we still are), so if I were to have anyone as a regular guest, I’m glad it’s someone who is already a good friend! We thought the best way to introduce Sophie to the blog and to you would be for me to ask each other a few fun questions and write a bit about ourselves.
Take it away, us!
Hello everyone! My name is Sophie and I love reading! Its true, I’m a huge nerd. I love reading all kinds of books, non fiction books about weird topics, young adult romances where teens fall in love and I can see it coming from a mile off, big fantasy books where dragons breathe fire and princesses live in big castles, and stories about humans going space and finding all sorts of weird things there. I love all kinds of books, which is why I’m really excited to be writing all about them (and other things) with Charlotte on her blog!
Me and Charlotte met at university, we were both doing film courses, but, surprising no one, we met through the Harry Potter Society! And we’ve been friends ever since. It’s annoying that she lives so far away from me, I’d love to see her more often, I think we were spoiled at uni when we all lived in the same town!
A bit of background on my blogging history, I had a blog last year whilst I lived in Spain, where I blogged about a few different things (films, lush products, what I was doing in Spain) but nothing as focused as what Char has achieved on her blog (Don’t tell her, but I’m pretty nervous)! Well, that’s the basics, Charlotte set me some questions to answer so you can get to know me a bit more but I’m sure you’ll get to know me when I start posting! See you soon <3
What is your current favourite book genre?
I just read a book about forensic pathology, I’m right now reading a book about the story of Sweeney Todd, and my next on my list is a book about queer history in London, so I’m on a bit of a nonfiction roll at the moment!
What’s one of the weirdest books you’ve read, and what made you decide to read it?
I read a book about children who kill, because my mum is a mental health nurse and she has weird books about kids and psychology. I find murders and serial killers fascinating, so a book about child killers was right up my alley.
When you go into a book shop, what makes you pick up a book?
The cover! I’m a sucker for an inviting cover, gorgeous colours and pretty pictures! I completely judge a book by its cover.
Do you prefer to buy your books online, from a bookshop, or borrow them from the library?
I prefer to buy them in book shops (I love actually holding a physical book, I’m not a big e-reader), but I do all three of these equally! Usually, if I buy a book online, it’s because I can’t find it in a shop, and libraries are where I find books I wanna read but don’t want to own forever.
If you could choose one country to live in, even just for a couple of months, where would you choose?
I would love to live in America. Maybe New York or LA (I know, so cliche). I’d love to try it for a few months and see if I liked it. They’re such crazy busy places that I think they’d be hard to live in for a long time.
What’s at the top of your bookish bucket list? (For example, maybe you’d go to Hogwarts, have lunch with a favourite character, or live in a fictional world.)
Ooh, I’ve never thought about this before! Uhh, I think I would definitely fly on a broomstick at Hogwarts, I would love to be able to fly, and Quidditch looks so fun!!
Which TV shows have you been loving recently?
I’ve been rewatching Friends on Netflix, which is such a classic and is giving me serious nostalgia for the 90s (what do you mean I didn’t actually grow up in the 90s, shhhhhh), and I’m halfway through Class, the teen Doctor Who spin-off show. I’m also in love with The Good Place, which is an incredibly clever and funny show that all of you should be watching! Seriously, Charlotte will back me up on this!
Finally… can you give us a sneaky hint about some of the blog posts you’ll be writing for Wonderfully Bookish?!
Oooh, okay, I guess I can give you a little taste! I’m going to be writing a comparison post about the TV show Outlander, comparing the books and the show (keeping the books in Wonderfully Bookish). I’m also going to be doing some posts about films I’ve seen recently (I am a film student after all). And lots more, but you’ll have to wait and see for the rest!
Now that you’ve met Sophie, I thought I’d let you get to know me a bit more, too. I don’t write about myself very often, so this might help you get to know me a little bit more than you already do! I promise there’s a person behind these book reviews! I asked Sophie to ask me a few questions, so here are my answers…
What is your favourite book you reviewed?
This is almost impossible to answer. I’ve reviewed so many books that I absolutely adored! A few of my favourites though are The Martian, Challenger Deep, Flawed, and SO many others. Just look at my Index and you’ll find tons that I loved!
What is the most recent film you saw?
I’ve seen quite a few recently. I live with my sister and she’s been working some nights until 10:30pm, so it gives me a lot of time to watch films. In the past week or so I’ve seen The Social Network, About Time, Early Man, and Monster House. (Such a random selection!)
What do you love about where you live?
I like that it’s close to Cardiff and one of my favourite places ever, Cardiff Bay. It’s also close to a lot of great places like Bath and Bristol, and it’s also not too far on the train from London!
What is one place you’d love to visit on holiday?
Some of the places on my bucket list are New Zealand, Canada, Alaska, and Norway. Clearly I have a preference for cold places…
What book on your ‘to be read’ list are most looking forward to reading?
Oh my god, so many. There are so many that I’m now drawing a complete blank and I can’t think of any of them. I’m quite literally buried under my TBR and I can’t even remember what’s on it anymore…
What is your favourite thing about blogging?
I just love everything about it – it’s definitely my favourite hobby I’ve had. I’ve been blogging for years, but this is the first blog I’ve actually ever stuck with and I’m so glad I did! It’s got me into reading a lot more than I used to (I’ve always loved reading but now I adore it and I’m reading more books than I ever have), I’ve made some incredible friends, and I’m always meeting new people. I just love it!
What book that is a ‘classic’ can you not stand?
Hmm, I’m really not a big reader of classics, so much that I can’t think of one I’ve actually read. I’m sorry, classics lovers! It’s just not my thing. I’m definitely one for contemporary books rather than classics.
What kind of books would you love to read more of?
I’d love to read graphic novels because they look so cool. I’ve seen a lot of my friends and other bloggers raving about them, so I definitely want to give them a try. I’m going to be hosting a blog hop soon all about trying new genres, so I’m going to give them a go!
I hope you’ve liked getting to know us both a little bit. Please give my wonderful new team member Sophie a warm welcome, and I hope you look forward to seeing her around!
